The Portfolio Cover Memo connects to the UWP1 learning outcomes of using writing for critical self-reflection, reflecting on reading and composing processes, reflecting on rhetorical choices, and applying key rhetorical concepts. The purpose of the Portfolio Cover Memo is to synthesize all of the learning about literacies that you’ve done this quarter and to help your portfolio readers better assess your portfolio by providing them with information about your composing processes, your rhetorical choices, and your growth as a writer. Research has shown that when students reflect on what they’ve learned about literacies and think about how they can apply it in future writing situations, they’re more likely to successfully transfer their learning to future writing situations. One goal of the Portfolio Cover Memo is to help you transfer your learning to new contexts in the future.
